Question:

I am getting a Bichon soon and the breeder is very into Holistic health care. She REALLY knows here breed and feels this route works well for them. She encourages people to cook their own dog food, has natural remedies for flea control etc. I like the sound of it and would like to investigate further. Does anyone take their dogs to a holistic rather than a normal vet? The breeder has a strong opinion about stuff like heart guard medicine and those pills you give dogs to control fleas. She feels it can do terrible things to a dogs immune system. Apparently more dogs get sick after taking all these medications than anything else. Their immune system crashes. All my dogs in the past have been on this and I've never had a problem. Still, they weren't Bichons and I didn't know about Holistic Vets in the past. If there is a more natural way to keep my dog healthy I'd definitely like to explore that. Can anyone advise or give me their opinion about this route I'm investigating?? Any pros or cons I'm missing?

I believe that holistic medicine has it's worth. You need to ask and do your own research and decide. I saw how holistic medicine actually improved my Collie that had terminal Cancer (The specialist said she wouldn't last past thanksgiving of last year. With holistic care, she lasted till last Tuesday.).
