Question:

I just got an email recently from someone responding to one of my posts, suggesting a natural cure- Restores. Of course, my first thought was that it seemed an awful lot like spam, but I decided to give the guy the benefit of the doubt. I emailed him personally, and he responded with an URL for a site with info. He claims that Restores really helped him. I've never had anyone tell me straight out that a natural remedy actually helped *them personally* more than meds, so I feel compelled to do a little research... Does anyone know anything about this "Restores" stuff? Anyone who's tried it, or knows someone who has? I'm really desperate for a cure, since meds have done nothing so far, so please excuse my query into what most would consider to be obvious "snake oil." The URL for the ingredients, btw, is: http://selections.com/restores/o.html and for 2 main pages I found: http://quest-iv-health.com/restores/joy/ http://selections.com/restores/1.html

Answer:

Urisk, the way you can find out about "Restores+" as it has been discussed in this newsgroup is to go to www.dejanews.com and do a search on it. Restores+ is a food supplement that is, like many of the others, sold by independent salespeople using a multilevel marketing approach. Keith Drown, the person who evidently sent you the mail about the product he sells, has been involved in some conversation here about Restores+. In common with most other MLM distributors, he is quite careful about the claims that he makes about the efficacy of his product. For all the "natural alternatives," to date there have been no credible accounts of success--almost all of the claims have come from people trying to sell things. Many people find these claims objectionable, at least partly because the people making the claims have no way of knowing whether the products they are trying to sell here will actually work. Keith Drown has said that the product he is taking had "very subtle" effects that took some time to appear. It also appears that he is dealing with a number of other comorbid conditions besides ADD. The kinds of claims Keith has made about his product are quite typical of those made by other distributors of MLM products. Medication is just one part of dealing effectively with ADD; they are a big help for many, but for a sizable portion of the population, meds just aren't effective. The best advice I could give you would be to explore *all* the responsible treatment options with your doctor: within the realm of medications, there are five classes of CNS stimulants and several antidepressants. People have reported success with all of them at one time or another.

  • Holistic Care for Pre-hospital Medicine?

I am currently working on a paper on Holistic Care for Pre-Hospital Medicine and was looking for input from fellow EMTs/Paramedics. Anybody have any ideas on EMS theory? Why we do this job, stressors of the job, the patient's point of view, what we need to remember as EMS providers, etc.
