Pretty much everyone else gets tossed on the street.

The problem with the lawyer jobs is that after a few years a pretty bigfraction, maybe 10-20% come to dislike the work so much that they want toget out of it. I've seen stats on this, and at least one book onalternative careers for lawyers.

Also junior partners at big law firms do a lot of heavy lifting and work long hours.

Hustling tenture-track asst professors might be putting in a lot of longhours pounding the keyboard on grant proposals, the majority of which getturned down.

Answer: Art, actually law schools, unlike S&E grad schools, do a good job oftracking their graduates. If you check either USNWR or the law schoolsthemselves, only the bottom 20% of attorneys are unaccounted for andthose are at the lower ranking law programs. The rest have jobs,though the Harvards and Georgetowns tend to break into the$75k-$120K/yr starting positions at private law firms whereas themiddle tier schools like Univ of Illinois, etc tend to average in the40s or 50s.
