Question: For you herbal/alternative medicine skeptics out there. http://www.nytimes.com/2002/05/17/international/17MEDI.html
Answer: According to this article, the World Health Organization wants to keeptrack of alternative medicine worldwide, and evaluate what things maywork and what things may kill you. The people who need to hear that, are the paranoid proponents ofalternative medicine, who keep claiming that lack of proof is due topharma companies and the FDA and other parts of a conspiracy to refuseto test it. Wanna bet that the first time the W.H.O. announces that a popular"alternative" remedy is either unsafe or ineffective or both, itsproponents won't believe them either? All we "skeptics" keep asking for, is scientific proof. The proponents, OTOH, won't retract their claims even after scientifictests have shown those claims are false. That's the difference. We're prepared to take "yes" for an answer. They're not prepared to take "no" for an answer. Not once in my memory has the "alternative" medicine industryvoluntarily recalled a remedy because it was either unsafe orineffective. Not once.
