Question: Speech Language Pathology as M.D. Alternative? i TOTALLY love medical knowledge, butA. I dont want to go to training for 11-15 years.B. I want PLENTY of time to spend with my family.so, would a medical speech language pathologist be a good alternative for someone who likes medicine??(yes, i already know about a physicians assistant and nurse practitioner, but my school doesnt offer either of these programs)
Answer: I asked nearly the same question a few months ago. Here's the link: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;... (If the link doesn't work, just see my Question History) Many speech language pathologists work in schools and elderly care homes. Many people who have had a stroke have trouble swallowing, and a speech language pathologist sort of teaches them how to swallow again. It might also be a good idea to learn Sign Language.
