Question: Here is a chart that compares the symptoms of hypo to the symptoms of adrenal fatigue for your reference>>I read this chart and feel that this maybe part of the puzzle I am missing...but how is it treated?
Answer: There are several different ways. The standard alternative medical route(did you follow that? I don't know how else to say it) is to replace theadrenal hormones (cortisol and perhaps DHEA) in physiological doses - Cortefand DHEA or 7-Keto DHEA, which can be gentler on the system because itdoesn't convert to sex hormones. I tried both routes and gained weight(water) very quickly until I stopped taking each. My doc, who put togetherthat site, says this is because my body was too weak to handle the actualhormones. I have been following his regimen of supplements that support andhelp heal the adrenals (the other alternative med route to go). I'll addthe full list below. However, this has also not helped me yet. I've been taking these supps forabout 4 months now. I have now come to my own conclusions about my adrenalfatigue after doing a lot of reading and consulting with a mind/body typetherapist. The adrenal glands are responsible for handling stress and ourreactions to fear. Therefore, I don't believe that one can address adrenalfatigue strictly from a physiological viewpoint. I think it's essential fortrue healing to address the root causes of one's stresses and fears. Myadrenal fatigue and other hypometabolic conditions appear to have startedvery early in life for me. I have uncovered emotional/psychological rootsthat directly relate to my illness (adrenal fatigue with resultingconversion problems that cause hypothyroid symptoms = chronic fatigue) andam working with this mind/body therapy in order to release those things. I believe that the direct reason that none of the physiologic treatmentshave worked for me is that I have deeply rooted motivations stemming fromchildhood issues to keep myself sick. The more I read about the mind/bodyconnection, the more I believe that most illness has directemotional/psychological roots. Not that anyone wants to get ill, but thatstresses and fears can have an incredible impact on our bodies. I think agood place to start reading about this is either of these books by CarolynMyss: "The Creation of Health" (written along with Dr. Norm Shealy, thefounder of the American Holistic Health Association) or "Anatomy of theSpirit". Sorry, this probably isn't the direct answer you would like to have had.Unfortunately, I've tried every direct way of treating this stuff and itsimply hasn't helped and in lots of cases, made me worse.
