Question: Can anyone recommend any sites concerning "holistic" vs "conventional"medicine be it veterinary or human?I admit to being a skeptic. I can not accept that practioners of"conventional" medicine are so closed-minded that they rejectpractices that show scientifically-demonstrable therapeutic effects. The proponents of the latest trends seem to think this is so. It just doesn't make sense to me that such a large, professionallytrained group could do that, regardless of the actions of any singleindividual. In short I am a skeptic. We seem surrounded by "holistic" medicine, homeopathy, chiropractic, etc. Some of the claims seem unreasonable tome. The scientific basis dubious or worse. Is there any way for areasonable, scientifically trained and oriented individual to navigatethese rapids?
Answer: More and more caring vets are combining 'western' and 'holistic' or'homeopathic' care for animals...up to and including acupuncture andchiropractic. Cat Fancy and many of the other Fancy publications have hadnumerous articles on 'alternative' care, in fact almost an article every 2months! You can visit the Cat Fancy site at: http://www.catfancy.com/ I have personal experience at extending the life of a pet when 'regular' vetcare told me to bring him home to die. Cat lived another 18 months, shinycoat, shiny eyes, and played with the other cats - with extreme hyperthyroidand kidney/liver complications due to reaction to Tapizol. I have a few other 'holistic' links, or if you are in the west, post me and Iwill give you my favorite 'holistic' vet's clinic phone number. They use ANYmethod, and sometimes ALL methods, to insure quality of life for the pets. Many OWNERS are not willing to do the work and pay the attention holistic carewill need. I feel that that is why it went 'out of favor' more than anythingelse. You have to monitor your pet, and cannot just give a pill once or twicea day. Owner is committed to working with the vet and the pet, and it takestime and effort. Again, in my mind, every second was well worth it. holistic vet.
