Question: NIH Awards $8 Million Grant for First Natural Medicine ResearchCenter for Minorities The Center will be headquartered at Maharishi University of Managementand will collaborate with four other major medical institutions, each ofwhom will contribute well-renowned expertise and facilities forconducting rigorous preventive medicine research. These institutionsinclude: The University of Iowa College of Medicine in Iowa City;Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta; and Charles R. Drew Universityof Medicine and Science and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Hector F. Myers, Ph.D., Professor of Psychology at UCLA, Professor ofPsychiatry at Drew University, and co-principal investigator of tworesearch projects in Los Angeles, said, "This is an exciting, newcollaborative effort--a true joint partnership--that will provide uswith the opportunity to conduct rigorous research focusing on minority,high-risk populations." The Center for Natural Medicine and Prevention will also serve as atraining center for future researchers, including graduate students,postdoctoral fellows, and conventionally-trained physicians who willstudy the effectiveness of natural medicine approaches in the areas ofcardiovascular disease, minority aging and prevention of chronicdisease.
Answer: i think this is great.....tres cool! but i am not sure that i completely understand the emphasis on"minority"....i never knew that race had a large role in heart disease! (ofcourse, i dont know alot of things!) i knew about sickle (sp?) cell anemia in african american health, but neverknew about heart disease..... well, hope they come up with lots of info and preventative measures (for allof us!)
