Definition Of Alternative Medicine

Question:
What is the definition of 'medicine?' How do you define 'the practice ofmedicine?' And, how does that relate to the practice of 'alternativemedicine?'

The definition of medicine, which I most agree with comes, from theWordsSmith dictionary. Medicine is defined, by WordsSmith, as:

http://www.wordsmyth.net/cgi-bin/simplesearch.cgi?matchent=medicine&m...e=exact&matchid=-1&retall=1"the science of diagnosing and treating illness, disease, and injury."

Definitions which include the term 'prevention' are, in my opinion, acorruption of the authentic original definition of medicine. They are acorruption of the English language by feel good liberals!

So, I figured out long ago that to avoid being charged with 'the practice ofmedicine' one has to be sure of doing two things: A) Refuse to 'Diagnose'; and B) Refuse to deal with 'illness, disease, and injury.'

Part B means that folk like me can legally deal with 'prevention', but NOTin the treatment of diseases like cancer. Anything that remotely relates to'treatments' or health protocols must specifically deal with either'prevention' or use the phrase 'minor health condition.'

The definition of alternative medicine, which I most agree with comes, fromthe American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language.

http://www.bartleby.com/61/21/A0232125.html"A variety of therapeutic or preventive health care practices, ... , that donot follow generally accepted medical methods and may not have a scientificexplanation for their effectiveness".

The essence of the term is also conveyed in this definition of'complementary medicine.'

http://www.graylab.ac.uk/cgi-bin/omd?complementary+medicine"A nonmainstream health care provided in addition or instead of standardmedical practice."

Hence, the term 'alternative medicine' is an oxymoron. So, any physicianwho claims to be practicing alternative medicine, is in effect claiming tobe practicing something other than medicine.

Hence, my website can be legally and correctly described as an alternativemedicine website.

So, in effect, if I am correctly described as a practitioner of alternativemedicine; I therefore deal with therapeutic practices. And, according tothe dictionary the word 'therapeutic' deals with healing. Hence, I have andcan continue to refer to myself as a 'Healer.' In fact, use of the term'Healer' is preferable as it avoids any confusion with the practice ofmedicine. It also implies use of a method, that MAY be legally withoutscientific explanation.

And, of course, health related websites should always conclude with adisclaimer that states that you are only a provider of information. Evenall physician websites use this disclaimer.

Ergo, any 'scientist want-a-be twit' who knocks my lack of so calledcredentials is only advertising their status as an ignoramus.

Ergo, ... you 'scientist want-a-be twit's are WRONG and way off base forcriticizing me.

And, I, hereby, challenge any and all 'scientist want-a-be twit's to proveme wrong.

And, in the future please restrict yourself to the proper terminology.

Answer: You wrote that you don't claim to be a doctor or to treat patients. So you :A) Refuse to 'Diagnose'; andB) Refuse to deal with 'illness, disease, and injury

Then you say you are a healer. You can't heal someone who is not sick!

I give you a simple definition of medicine: "Healing the sick"
