Question: The Diabetes Expo came to town this weekend. I had a fantastic time, it wasa lot of fun. I worked as a volunteer for the ADA. I did a lot ofmiscellaneous stuff, but spent most of the time working at the registrationbooth at the entrance. There was a lot going on with the exhibit hall and the adjacent rooms wherethey held lectures give by medical professionals (Doctors and CDEs) aboutvarious topics relating to diabetes. The event was held in a civic centerthat houses many different activities every weekend. Completely bycoincidence (I asked the ADA Director about it), there was a holistic"health expo" directly across from the area where the Diabetes Expo was. There ended up being a lot of confusion on the part of the attendees indifferentiating the "health expo" from the Diabetes Expo. Many of the folkswanting the holistic expo ended up trying to sign in at our registration.Part of what I was doing was getting the lecturing folks signed in anddistributing their name tags, etc. On many occasions, the holistic speakerswould come up and try to sign in. I could usually spot them a mile away. The Doctors were all dressed professionally, and the holistic folks... well, they looked like dirtbags. A number of the holistic speakers calledthemselves Doctors, I could barely contain my urge to laugh out loud. Ofcourse I still had plenty to say out loud about holistics. One person askedif there were any "alternative medicine" lectures happening at the DiabetesExpo, and I told them no because there are no alternative treatments fordiabetes.
Answer: I haven't been too impressed with the ADA's website setup, there should be apage where you can look at all of the events across the nation. The thingto do is to contact your local chapter, they are best at telling you what isgoing on. I did a cursory web search for "diabetes expo" and found a few upcomingexpos:March 9th in Boston, MAMarch 16th in Secaucus, NJApril 13th in Seattle, WA at the "Stadium Exhibition Center"
