Question: I have an appointment to meet with a Holistic Nurse Practitioner to reviewmy eating patterns, medications, supplements, exercise, etc. When I spoke with her, over the phone, I told her about the meds. I amtaking due to receiving a transplant almost 3 years ago. I explained that Iwill be taking these particular meds. for as long as I have the kidney.Surprisingly, she said " Why must you take them?". I basically explainedrejection but would like to further clarify my reasons when I meet with hernext Wednesday. Of course, I will always take my meds. ( no matter if anyonesays otherwise ). Does anyone have a good, informative way of explaining medication to peoplethat don't seem to quite understand why they must be taken even though thekidney was " matched " ( as she put it ).
Answer: If she is any nurse practioner that is worth her salt and has any knowledgeshe would not have asked you that question! Please, just be careful withthe holistic scene, take your rejection meds. I am not knocking it but shedoesn't sound like she has a clue about transplant meds and believe it ornot a lot of nurses don't, I ended up in the ER recently and the ER triagenurse never heard of most of my meds and repeatedly asked me why I wastaking them...
