Question: Nurses are supposed to be holistic in their care but how can they? when some nurses are atheist, christian muslimha, ect how do we DO the spirituel bit of holistic care when we are all different??? Ime a Nurse obviously.
Answer: holistic care means treating the whole person, not just the symtpoms or certain parts. I am a Christian so I don't believe that this can be accomplished by one who does not believe that we have a spirit and a soul- the condition of your spirit and soul will affect your physical health and these aspects should be taken into account. At the very least, a nurse that is a nonbeliever should consider that a persons emotional health, their diet, and certain aspects of their daily life are going to have an impact on their physical well being and not take these issues for granted when caring for a patient. Also, regardless of what the nurse believes, she should have compassion and respect regarding what the patients spiritual beliefs are without operating in prejudice or judgementalism.
