Question:
Can anyone think of a reason not to supplement with vit. K2 andD3 on a background of adequate calcium intake?

Answer: I've searched hard for such evidence, and found none worthkeeping. Note that I specified K2, but I also find nothing convincingfor K1, which is the clotting factor form. Never the less if I hadatrial fibrillation or even a hi INR I would definitly take K2 onlyafter a very diligent study, if at all. Here's what I have on it. The Alter Med Rev is the journal ofThorne, an alternative medicine company, but peer reviewed and wellthought of. They are of coursed biased, but they do give references. Ialso post an interesting abstract or two below, one that shows apossible additive effect of K2 and ACE inhibitors.

This article covers in vitro, in vivo, and human data on thepositive effect of vitamin K2 on osteoporosis. Data is available onvitamin K2 for osteoporosis caused by a number of conditions, includingpostmenopausal osteoporosis, Parkinson's disease, biliary cirrhosis, stroke, and drug-induced osteoporosis. The activity of vitamin K2involves both an increase in the bone-building process and a separatedecrease in the bone-loss process. Vitamin K2 exerts a more powerfulinfluence on bone than vitamin K1, and should be considered forprevention or treatment in those conditions known to contribute toosteoporosis.
