Question: Ive been researching this for a friend with Lyme / CFIDS. She also hasCrohns so she wants to make sure that which probiotic she chooses - itdoesn't do her any harm and hopefully alot of good. She has taken a Gut Permeabilty test an also a Gut Fermentation testwhich both were highly positive. She's too weak to take anti-fungalsright now and wants to start with either an undenatured whey /colostrum and a good probiotic. The first probiotic that I came across was (no surprise) PrimalDefense. Now while it all sounds good - there is two negatives. One,Natasha Trenev from Natren.com states that HSO's are dangerousand JiniPatel Thompson (Listen To Your Gut & IBS Remission Diet) is number twoas she backs her up and was a sufferer her self. So, has this product helped any of you out there? Or, has it in factharmed you? The last thing my friend needs is to get worse. Here's alink to a website that sells it: http://www.primaldefense.net The second probiotic I came across was OM-X (Dr Ohhira's ProbioticForula) from Japan. This one seems to have alot more research to back up it's claims. Ilike the fact that it's ot touted everywhere you go on the net as acure-all as alot of probiotics are. Here's a couple of links towebsites that sell the product. http://www.bioeonline.com http://www.omx2u.com The third probiotic is Threelac - this stuff is everywhere. Even mydoctor wants me to take it for an Ulcer. I don't know's who's behindit - but they should write a book on marketing http://www.threelac.com (don't fill in your email addy unless youwant two emails a day - I had to block them eventually). Finally, there's Theralac - this one seems very interesting. Might bescam though. http://www.theralac.com So, that's it - other than them it's just Culturelle which is your bogstandard probiotic with no bells and whistles. Any, advice on which totake or experiences which any of them would be greatly appreciated.
Answer: "Maker's Diet" author tied to illegal supplement marketing. The FDAhas ordered Garden of Life of West Palm Beach, Florida, to stop makingunsubstantiated claims for "Q-Zyme,""Primal Defense," "Virgin CoconutOil," "Fungal Defense," "FYI (For Your Inflammation)," "RM-10,""Revivall Classic," or other products. [Singleton ER. Warning letterto Robert U. Craven. May 11, 2004] The company was founded by JordanS. Rubin, "NMD, PhD, CNC," who claims to have cured himself of"intestinal parasites, severe Candida, extreme anemia, food allergies, diabetes, excruciating abdominal pain, chronic diarrhea, poorcirculation, liver problems, chemical sensitivities, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, arthritis, insomnia, hair loss, prostate and bladderinfections, irregular heartbeat, eye inflammation, and chronicdepression." Rubin's credentials have no legitimate academic orprofessional standing: His NMD (naturopathic medical doctor) is from the Peoples Universityof the Americas School of Natural Medicine, a nonaccredited schoolwith no campus. His Ph.D. is from the Academy of Natural Therapies, a nonaccreditedcorrespondence school that the State of Hawaii ordered to close lastyear. His CNC (Certified Nutritional Consultant) comes from the AmericanAssociation of Nutritional Consultants, whose only requirement for"professional member" status has been payment of a $50 or $60 fee. TheCNC requires passage of a test based mainly on the contents of booksthat promote nutrition quackery. Rubin's book, "The Maker's Diet," is number 14 on the New York Timeslist of hardcover advice books. The book's Web site states that Rubin"uses Biblical and scientific resources to provide a uniquely holisticwellness program." Entrepreneur Magazine listed Garden of Life as thefifth fastest-growing company in America, with 2003 sales of $43.2million.
