Question: Friend has confided they have genital warts. Any home remedies to get rid of them? or should they go to a dermatologist. Any ideas on how to keep them from reoccuring, we do know that they have them for life, but hoping we can find a way to control outbreaks
Answer: Genital warts and genital herpes are two completely different things (a few people answering are obviously confusing the two). Both are viruses and will stay with you the rest of your life. Genital warts are caused by HPV (Human Papillomavirus). There are a few ways to get rid of them. You can have them lasered off, frozen off, or use topical medication (creams). As for home remedies, nothing really works. The more you wait, the more they spread and can become VERY painful (I had to call off work, they were so painful). Aldara cream is very useful, but very powerful. You are only suppose to use it 3 days a week because you can get 2nd and 3rd degree burns from it. Unfortunately the only way to get Aldara is by going to the doctor and getting a prescription. You do not need to go to a dermatologist. Your regular family doctor can help.
